It's exam-week this week and that means that I'm being glued to paper instead of computers. Boring? Sure, but somehow I got a good feel about these exams and I should be able to pass them.

Support an open Intzorwebs

As a pirate freedom on the Internet is very important to me. It is of my opinion that access to Internet should be a fundamental right, like water or electricity. No court or country should have the right to take away my access to fresh water or my the electricity that keeps my house warm. Therefore I have signed this petition and if you agree with me, I suggest you do the same.

Garlics are not ethics

Apparently garlics are not ethics. At least not according to our lecturer who showed a great lacking of humour when someone replied to his statement that we couldn't have a wrong opinion about ethics by asking if a garlic could be the definition of ethics.

Personally I think it was rather unethical of him to get angry for falling into the moral hole, which he had dug himself. But I guess that it is only natural for someone how lectures about ethics for engineers to be boring.

Google does however disagree with our lecturer and has 402.000 hits for "garlic ethics", so I guess they do after all.

Good deed

Yesterday I "borrowed" 300 Swedish crowns(about 30 €) to an exchange student who had lost his wallet and ID so that he could get home to his apartment in Örebro. Not sure where I'm going with this post, but I feel rather good about myself. I wonder if it's common to get kicks out of good deeds.

Steampunk

Only been having clockwork, steamengines and Victorian gentlemen on my mind during the last few days. I'm not sure what's so facinating about 19th century Sci-Fi, but it has really gotten to me lately. If I ever get enough money to afford a house where I can have my own study I'm going to fill it with lots of steampunkish stuff and be all awesome. Also I will have to buy a tophat.

Speaking of which, I found this site and while I'm not sure about how good they are at delivery, their inventory is great:

Youtube Movies

A few nights ago I discovered that youtube has legal films without any copyright on them. Five minutes later I discovered that most of them were in fact crap. However if you keep digging deeper you might find pearls. Like this one for example:

Democracy in Finland

“We are absolutely against the idea that any political party can give their support to the idea of free use of protected content,” said Arto Alaspaeae, the director of IFPI Finland (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry).

I like Finland, there they say what they think instead of just hinting it. While in Sweden the copyright industry fights hard by bribing policemen and corrupting judges, in Finland they say what they actually think about us, namely that we should not exist and freedom of speech should only be used when it is convenient for big companies.

Rick Falkvinge writes more about this in swedish.

Initiation

School has started and for some reason they let me be part of the initiation weeks for the new students, poor things. This do not necessarily mean that I'll post less, considering how inactive I've been in the past that's going to be hard, but it my messages might be a bit weird(er).

So now that we've established that this blog is hopefully going to be even more awesome in the future I would like to move on to a subject which I haven't really touched yet:
Piracy

I have already told you that I am an political pirate, while I might wear an eye-patch and a funny hat from time to time that's hasn't got much to do with it. I believe that the free net is here to stay and that politicians and big companies should accept that and stop trying to control it. A free net benefits everyone and, while some people mostly in the older generation doesn't consider this, the prize to pay for a "secure" net would be much worse than living in eastern Berlin 30 years ago.

Chasing ones tail

Noticed that I can follow my own blog while toying around with the options. Seems a bit silly to me, but I was able to double my follower and increase my epeen at the same time. Awesome.

Holy cow!

Been thinking a bit about last night's speculations regarding WoW next expansion:
http://www.mmo-champion.com/index.php?topic=92919.0

While Night Elven magi, tauren paladins and troll druids seems to be a bit (or a whole lot) of lorelol at first, I think that if given the proper background to them it might be a good idea. Problem is that the little quests that was leaked about it is simply not enough to justify it and I can't see blizzard making a new DK starting zone for ever new race/class combination they're going to add. Still an event like that which happened before the start of Wrath might be resonable enough.

Spoiler:
What wories me more is the pure lore part later in the article Thrall saying bye-bye to the horde leaving Garrosh incharge (Saurfang would fit alot more) who starts his brilliant leadership by assassinating Cairne (WTF that's like the nicest dude in the game! Why would anyone want to kill him), then Thrall apparently becomes empowered by the most powerful magi of Dalaran and is able to claim the title "Guardian of Tirisfal". I like multiclasses, but Warrior/Shaman/Mage seems just a tad wrong.

What I really like about the speculation is the fact that they're going to redsigning the vanilla zones. Owning my own gryphon will be great while I'm at home will be great and it seems like they really intend to make the leveling experience between 1 and 58 enjoyable. As a succesful member of Altoholics Anomymus I have to admit that rerolling seems more and more like a good idea after reading this.

Last and most importat:
With the new race/class combo changes every race save gnomes will be able to have hunters. Give me my half metre tall marksman! I don't care if gnomes, woods and pets doesn't fit (though one might argue about this). Gnomes and guns do and gnomish hunters works a whole lot better than troll druids.

Layout change

Did I few minor changes to the blog, most notable would be that the siggy... if that's what you call it on blogs, has been updated.

Completely unrelated, but I have managed to get my hands on a fake-leather bound hard back copy of the Nerconomicon, so you'll soon see me raising the dead and conversing with the great old ones.

GAC attack!

Still haven't been bothered to go photoshop and create a totally awesome layout and I can't be bothered about being grumpy about poltics today either. Something I can write about is that GAC, the Gnomish Air Cav. will soon have a nice video on YouTube.

Perpare the Turnip Blog

Been thinking about creating a blog for quite some time now and today I finally decided to go ahead with it, mostly out of boredom though.

I guess a presentation of me and my silly name is in order. I am 20 year old Internet pirate (though my ratio is lousy), I study at Chalmer's University of Technology and I enjoy to pretend that I am a silly little gnome on a World of Warcraft RP server.

I have yet to decide what I am going to write about on this blog, but so far piracy and general lulz seems to pretty attractive topics for me to write about.

Anyway I'll get back to writing once I've played a bit with the settings and layout.
